Words of Wisdom

As I arrive back in Turin from Geneva, Switzerland, I have opened my eyes and mind to a number of characteristics of this world around us that I was previously oblivious to. It makes me dig deeper into myself to catalog how far I have come. I present to you these thoughts which I've scribbled down through the years to guide me when I struggle so that maybe one of you, too, can find solace in what I have learned in my brief time on earth.

Never be afraid of who you are, flaws included. You can and must live your way if you wish to love every second of it, good and bad. Nobody will carry you on the road to success because that power either comes from inside you or not at all. Never trust someone who thinks they can show you what success looks like. That is only for you to decide.

Do not fear being manipulated for your good intentions. Those who would use someone else as their stepping stone will end up stranded in the middle of the pond. Worry not of their kind being out there, only be concerned if you are letting their selfish actions push you to cynicism. If you let them drag you down, or try to help them, then you will both drown. Sometimes you have to let people sink, for it is not your responsibility to have a stake in their journey’s outcome.

Strength isn’t characterized by the steadiness of your hands on the wheel as you encounter life’s twists and turns, but rather by the nature of your journey as a whole. Fall, get back up, and be confident in whatever you can accomplish. The true champion of life’s boundaries is not the storybook hero who dives into the unknown head on, but he who knows fear and uses it as his guide to propel him forward. Perhaps life’s greatest lesson is learning to know fear but not suffer in it, to let it assist and lead but not drain and deplete what makes you truly special. If you wish to aspire towards heroism, find the one thing you do best and capitalize on it. Nobody should expect more of you than you are capable of giving.
