World Poetry Day
It's world poetry day, so I might as well throw another one of my notebook poems on here to celebrate!
Damocles
Damocles
He stalked along the path to riches,
Followed only by a shadow:
Stalled, the weight of his decisions,
Sacrificed to take the saddle.
Vain possessions fuel a drive
That once was passion, bold and young,
Before his chances left to die,
Gaunt, a casket for his love
Is calling, dreams are fading down--
Salt and sand beneath his feet;
Wading through the breaking sound
Of wailing, staked in his defeat.
The day he sold that childish wonder,
The reaper rose to pull him under.
