Day 12
Doubling up today because I was too busy yesterday to put up a poem. I still wrote one, which is the first poem on this post, reminiscing on my trip to Costa Rica last July.
The Richest Coast
Paradise lost, distraught, despair
Haunting reminders binding my mind
To wariness, fallen out of repair,
Daunting- the spirit of slipping time.
Seeded the realist in magical visions
Charming sights inspired a message
A mission-- a story told in wisdom
Happened to be the most valuable lesson.
"Pura Vida", clean easy living,
Happiness, sunshine, carefree excitement--
Endless enchantment, hands of giving,
And me, worlds apart, consumed in enticement.
Back to the maze, a material daze, where
Money and life and love are sent
To wither for cars, or cravings in trade
For a life we did not choose nor invent.
Why must it be? Or must it be so
That when wind blows hope down the golden Jacó coast
We know what is real, then, and what must go...
For life is simpler than beknown to most.
Flash!
Click--
Just as quick as they came,
The gilded, picturesque smiles fade
To blank, hopeless visages betrayed
By lies and made to display:
I'm okay.
And at the same time illuminates
With that startling, flash! to each face
The fault in facades, fresh and fake
As the flaws of our ways:
Unchanged.
